At a young age, he was subjected to sexual abuse and extreme neglect, including being confined in a dog kennel and forced to eat from the same bowl as the dog. His mother left when he was just two years old, leaving him and his younger brother in their father’s care. By the age of six, authorities intervened, placing Johannes in various children’s homes and foster care settings, where he continued to face mistreatment. Between the ages of seven and ten, he lived in 23 different places and attended 24 different schools.

The cumulative trauma led Johannes into a downward spiral of depression, substance abuse, and multiple suicide attempts—36 in total. However, a turning point came when he met Annelle, who would become his wife. Her unwavering support and love became the cornerstone of his healing journey. Through faith, therapy, and a newfound sense of purpose, Johannes began to rebuild his life.
